Silicon Metal Introduction
Silicon Metal is dark gray, also known as Metallurgical Silicon. It is characterized by high melting point, good heat resistance, high resistivity, and excellent oxidation resistance.
Silicon Metal lump was produced in electric heating furnace by quartz and coke. Quartz will be redox and became molten silicon liquid. After cooling, it will be solid as we see. The primal silicon metal lump is very large. Then it will be made into smaller lumps which we call standard size. Silicon Metal Lumps will be 10-100mm.
Silicon Metal Application:
1. Silicon Metal is widely used in the smelting of alloy materials as a reducing agent in the smelting of various metals.
2. Silicon Metal is widely used in refractory materials and power metallurgy industries to improve heat resistance, wear resistance and oxidation resistance.
3. Silicon Metal is used in the production of high temperature materials to make enamels and pottery.
4. Silicon Metal Powder as an alloy additive improves the hardenability of steel in the metallurgical and foundry industries.
5. Silicon Metal Powder is sublimated into monocrystalline silicon. As an important raw material for integrated circuits and electronic components, it has been widely used in high-tech fields, such as the semiconductor industry that requires ultra-pure silicon wafers.
Most Metallurgical Silicon Metal is used as an alloying agent in the aluminium industry due to its ability to increase the strength of aluminium. Demand from the aluminium industry has grown steadily in recent years due to increased usage of aluminium in structural engineering, aircraft manufacture and the automotive industry. Aluminium alloys are lighter and more resistant to corrosion than carbon-steel and can be made by addition of metals such as copper, zinc, magnesium, manganese as well as silicon.
